Prairie Allergy is excited to introduce you to QUICK-LI® also known as ultrasound-guided intralymphatic immunotherapy. QUICK-LI is an innovative allergy treatment that uses purified allergen extract which is injected directly into the lymph node to desensitize your immune system and relieve your allergy symptoms. Only secondary lymphatic organs, such as lymph nodes, can initiate immunological responses. Consequently, intralymphatic immunotherapy administers allergen extract directly to lymph nodes to induce rapid and effective immunological tolerance.

QUICK-LI has two important benefits over allergy shots and sublingual immunotherapy (ie allergy drops): the process requires fewer visits and offers rapid results! The treatment consists of an ultrasound-guided lymph node injection which is repeated 4 weeks and 8 weeks later, for a total of 3 injections and completion of therapy in 8 weeks. This results in fewer injections and a shorter treatment duration than other forms of immunotherapy. In comparison, a course of allergy shots requires 70-90 injections over a period of 3-5 years. Sublingual immunotherapy is also a long-term treatment, requiring daily dosing at home for 3-5 years.

Ultrasound-guided immunotherapy can be used to treat environmental allergies to substances like:
• Pollen
• Mold
• Dust mites
• Pet dander

This procedure is available to all Prairie Allergy patients who suffer from seasonal or year-round allergies. If you are interested in QUICK-LI, call to schedule an appointment today!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we hear most often. Please contact us with additional questions.

This form of immunotherapy has been shown to cause a reduction in allergy symptoms, improved quality of life, and decreased reliance on allergy medications.

Every patient’s immune system will respond at its own pace. However, most patients will experience symptom improvement within weeks to months. The majority of patients notice an improvement in symptoms about 4 weeks after the 3rd and final treatment dose.

We use the inguinal lymph nodes as they are some of the more superficial nodes in the body and easily accessible with the use of ultrasound. The inguinal lymph nodes are found at the crease between your torso and thigh, just below the “underwear line”. We provide ample draping and covers to make sure you are comfortable – we understand that this is a sensitive area and your privacy is very important!

Actually, this procedure is very well tolerated! The main discomfort is the needle poking into the skin, just as you would experience with other injections. Very few patients report swelling or even redness at the injection site.

As you can expect with any injection or procedure that breaks the skin barrier, there is a risk of bleeding and infection. Your doctor will clean the injection site and make sure this risk is as minimal as possible. You might be surprised to know that this procedure has minimal risk of a more severe reaction or allergic reaction, less than typical allergy shots!

Absolutely nothing! I recommend taking your usual allergy medications the day of your procedure. If you are on a Beta-Blocker medication, please be sure to share this information with your doctor.
