About Prairie Allergy

Get to Know Prairie Allergy

Prairie Allergy was founded in 2023 by Dr. Brynn Everist. As one of the few direct specialty care allergy practices in the country, we at Prairie Allergy are able to provide a unique and personalized approach to your health as it relates to allergy and immunology.

As a patient, you will quickly feel our passion for this field of medicine, for how dramatically we can improve the quality of life of our patients. This is a rapidly advancing field with new understanding of the immune system and new treatments emerging at all times.

Allergy and immunology involves the management of disorders related to the immune system. These conditions range from very common problems (hay-fever, food allergies, and asthma) to very rare conditions (congenital immunodeficiencies).

Whether common or rare, allergy and immunological disorders are frequently chronic and always frustrating. They span all ages and affect multiple organ systems. This is why we believe that a therapeutic plan must be personalized to include lifestyle, life plans, and the broad picture of your health.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we hear most often. Please contact us with additional questions.

Immunotherapy is generally considered a curative therapy, though an individual’s long-term response to immunotherapy can vary. Many report life-long resolution of their allergies, while others may need another round of therapy 10-20 years following initial completion.

Prairie Allergy offers 4 types of immunotherapy to maximize therapeutic effects in a way that is consistent with your lifestyle and treatment goals.

I’m always on the lookout for advancements in medicine and novel ways to help my patients manage their chronic symptoms.

This depends on the type of immunotherapy used. Allergy drops and Quick-LI®, a rapid immunotherapy treatment, have lower potential side effects. Allergy shots require numerous injections and side effects can vary in severity. Prairie Allergy is equipped to handle any such reactions and we will discuss more on your first visit.

Allergy drops are self-administered home-based therapy involving placement of drops under the tongue at home every day. Allergy shots are given in the office. Rapid immunotherapy is a series of 3 treatments dosed every 4 weeks in the office.

Patients may notice improvement of their allergy symptoms within the first several months of allergy drops and allergy shots. Some patients with chronic symptoms may not notice improvement until the first year of therapy is complete.

Quick-LI® typically results in improvement 3 months after initiating therapy, if not sooner.

There is not currently a cure for food allergies, however there are many treatment options that reduce the risk of a severe allergic reaction. This topic is the focus of considerable research and we stay up to date on the newest advances and practices.

We use skin testing and blood testing in combination with history of reactions to certain foods to establish the presence of a food allergy.

Yes! There are both medications which have FDA approval for food allergy as well as several methods of desensitization. At Prairie Allergy, we specialize in SLIT (sublingual immunotherapy), which is a safe and effective desensitization treatment for individuals with any kind of food allergy.

Desensitization treatments such as SLIT involve a combination of in-office and at-home dosing. Desensitization is a long-term therapy, requiring consistency of home dosing over the span of several years in order to gain and maintain tolerance to your food allergen.

Absolutely yes!

A food allergy is a response created and driven by the immune system. Allergy antibodies (ie Immunoglobulin E or IgE) are measurable to a specific food (aka the allergen) and lead to a specific set of symptoms when activated. Food allergies can be life-threatening, even when very small amounts of the allergen are consumed.

Food sensitivities are inflammatory reactions. Our understanding of food sensitivities is not yet well defined or understood beyond a person’s unique symptoms upon eating a certain food. Fortunately, food sensitivities are not life-threatening. Unfortunately, we do not have reliable testing available for food sensitivities; food allergy testing does not detect food sensitivities, as it is driven by a completely different kind of inflammation.
